7 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Submitting Form 15G for PF Withdrawal

To withdraw your EPF amount without TDS deductions, make sure to avoid these seven common mistakes when submitting Form 15G. Many EPF members make these errors, leading to TDS deductions or delays in their claims.

1. Not Knowing the Eligibility

Before submitting Form 15G, you must know whether you are eligible:

You need to submit Form 15G if:

  • Your PF balance is more than ₹50,000, and
  • Your total service is less than 5 years.

You don’t need to submit Form 15G if:

  • Your PF amount is less than ₹50,000, even if your service is below 5 years.
  • Your service is 5 years or more, regardless of the amount.

2. Entering the Wrong Financial Year (Previous Year)

Many people enter the wrong financial year while filling out Form 15G.

A financial year runs from April 1 to March 31 of the next year.

For example:

  • The current financial year (FY) is 2024–2025 (01 April 2024 – 31 March 2025).
  • After this, the next financial year will be 2025–2026.

Make sure to write the correct financial year in the form to avoid processing delays.

3. Not Declaring the Actual Annual Income

In Field 17 of Form 15G, you must declare your total estimated annual income for the financial year, including:

  • Salary
  • Interest income
  • Rental income
  • Any other sources of income

For example:

If your salary is ₹2,00,000 and your EPF withdrawal is ₹50,000, then your total estimated income should be ₹2,50,000.

Incorrect income details may lead to claim rejection or tax issues later.

4. Submitting Only One Part of Form 15G

Many EPF members upload only Part 1 of Form 15G and forget to upload the complete form.

✔️ Correct Process:

Even though Part 2 is not required to be filled, you must upload all scanned pages of Form 15G.

If you submit only Part 1, EPFO may reject your application.

5. Entering the Wrong Assessment Year

The assessment year (AY) is different from the financial year.

If the financial year is 2024–2025, then the assessment year will be 2025–2026.

Always check this carefully before submitting the form to avoid errors.

6. Downloading the Wrong Form 15G

There are many versions of Form 15G available online, but you must download the correct form from the Income Tax Department’s official website.

✔️ Download the official Form 15G here:

Submitting the wrong form may result in your claim getting rejected.

7. Uploading a Large Scanned Copy of Form 15G

When uploading Form 15G, ensure that the scanned file size is less than 1MB.

✔️ If the file is too large, you can reduce its size using free online tools like:

A large file size may cause upload errors and delay your claim.

Avoiding these common mistakes will ensure a smooth and problem-free EPF withdrawal process. Double-check all details before submitting Form 15G, and make sure you meet the eligibility criteria.
