Can My New Employer Check My Previous EPF Deductions

No, your new employer cannot check your previous EPF deductions by using your UAN number. But they can find your service history by using your UAN number in their employer PF portal.

In the below image, you can see how employers check the service history of their employees by using UAN numbers.

can my new employer check my previous EPF deductions.

“If you are mentioning fake salary details then you don’t need to worry about giving your previous UAN number to the new employer, but if you have mentioned wrong experience details then it is better to not give your UAN to the new employer.”

Why Hiding Your Previous PF Details is Not a Good Idea

At present Aadhar number of the employee is mandatory to generate a UAN number. So if you already had a UAN which was linked to your Aadhar number, then it is not possible to generate a new UAN.

And the second reason is if you keep on changing UAN numbers (not possible nowadays)  then your EPF service period will break, which will hurt your monthly EPF pension amount after 58 years of your age.

Finally, any misrepresentation of previous job details will take away your peace of mind and they may hurt at any time. Now most companies made background verification very strict. So hiding your previous job details is not a good idea.

Can We Open a New PF Account When We are Absconding from Previous Company

Once your UAN is linked with your Aadhar number then it not possible to create a new UAN with the same Aadhar number. Because at present EPFO made it mandatory to submit the Aadhar number of the employee to generate a new PF account.

So you have to continue with the same UAN whenever you join in the new job.

  1. Hi Rajesh,

I joined company A in 2017, where A created a PF account and UAN for me. After 6 months I absconded. I did not mention that experience on my CV. Post which none of my employers used PF, since I was always on retainership.
Now I might have to disclose the UAN account opened in 2017.
Not sure if Aadhar was linked with that. However, I don’t want to take any risks.
    Could you please guide?
    Thanks

    • You should give your second company UAN to your Third company, and transfer all your previous PF amounts to your third company PF account.

  4. I am working for X company since year 00 but after year 03 i got some health issue and had to stop working for almost another 3 years…after recovering i started again in the same firm and it is been almost 20 months since i restarted but my PF number is different from the previous one in the same organization (however UAN is same) as they marked exit when i got health problem.

I am now starting with Y company and i have shown them continuous experience of 7 years.

UAN number shows same company service details 2 times with 3 years of gap.

Will there be a problem in Background verification. If yes then please guide how to deal with Y company HR team as i really need Y company job.

    • If they check your experience through your UAN then you have to reveal the truth, nothing we can do to hide the experience details when it comes to PF.
But fortunately, most employers don’t use PF details for background verification.

  5. Hi I joined company A on 31 May 2021 and left on 2nd June 2021.I joined company B on 3rd June 2021.For background verification they did not ask my UAN number ,but now after one month they have asked UAN number for PF account creation .And company A had created their PF account in my UAN number. If I give that UAN number to company B which is my current employer ,will there be an issue ?

    • They may be asked your UAN for PF payment, every employer will ask for it. As your background verification was completed, you don’t need to worry about it.

I have resigned my second company. and since i had 6 months of gap between leaving my first company and joining second company, I have decided to show my total experience above 2 years under some other company name. 13. Hi! Rajesh. I have worked in company 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I left company 3rd within 4 months without serving notice and nothing was demanded from me and I even withdrew the PF as well. Now, when I join the company 4th, I am not disclosing the 3rd company experience. Which PF no. shall I provide to my new company? 2nd or 3rd? If 3rd, then would it be a problem?

I had UAN number linked with Aadhaar from previous employer but now I have updated name in Aadhar card. while trying for kyc it is showing data mismatch. Is it possible to create new UAN number with updated Aadhar name? Any solution

    • No, it is not possible to create new UAN with the same Aadhar number. You have to correct your PF details as per your Aadhar card. For that submit PF joint declaration form to your PF office.

  15. Hi Rajesh,
i worked in 2 companies A & B each one month and pf created for both companies linked to UAN but i mentioned it as gap. after that i joined another company C worked for 1.5 years and they don’t have pf deduction.
now I’m joining new company D they are asking for UAN and previous pf number.
whether i have to give UAN to new employer or not? also which previous pf number i have give companies A or B?
does it create any future problem. please help me on this

    Reply
    • You should continue the same UAN and if they ask PF number then give the company ‘B” PF number.
Hence you have already mentioned it as a gap, it will not create any problems in future.
