Yes, employees can work in Two companies at a time until they are able to manage the timings &  do the effective work, and pay the income tax on both salaries, if applicable. 

But it does not apply to the employees who work in factories, according to section 60 of the factories act 1948, double employment is not allowed.

“Restriction on double employment:  No adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in any factory on any day on which he has already been working in any other factory, save in such circumstances as may be prescribed. “

So make sure your job is not covered under the factories act 1948, you can know this by contacting your HR department. 

Similarly in some top-level jobs where companies put restrictions on not working in two jobs simultaneously. Because it may cause leakage of the company’s confidential information.
