EPF Gross Wage In ECR Is Now Optional: After launching unified PF portal there are lot of changes have taken place in uploading ECR file ( Electronic Challan cum Return File ), updating KYC details and addition of employee missing details in unified Portal. As we all know after introducing unified PF portal there are some extra fields were added in unified portal employer login and also in ECR file which we used to make monthly PF contributions of employee and employer.
EPF Gross Wage In ECR Is Now Optional
In that the most surprising thing is Employee Provident Fund Organization has added a field called Gross Wage, which has to be filled during generation of UAN number and also in filling ECR file. Earlier it was not there in ECR file. But recently EPFO has withdrawn it’s decision of entering gross wages of employees during ECR returns.

As per the latest decision taken by Employee Provident Fund organization from 1 April 2017 there is no need to add gross wages of employees in ECR file. EPFO made it optional, if employer wants to add gross wage of employee then they can add, if they don’t want to add those details then it is not mandatory to enter gross wages of employees in ECR file. EPFO is also making changes to EPF unfied portal software to run according to these changes and these changes will be effected form 1 April 2017.
Dear Sir,
We have uploaded the following wage details for our employees:
Gross Wages, EPF Wages, and EPS Wages: 21,000
EDLI Wages: 15,000
Could you confirm if this is the correct format? If not, please provide the correct format along with the appropriate employee and employer contribution details. Additionally, please guide us on how to rectify the discrepancies. Moreover our employee is unable to withdraw the PF due this.
During employee registration, we recorded the employee wages as 21,000, with both the employee and employer contribution amounting to 3,600.
Regards
Prabha
Gross wage and EPF/EPS wages should not be same.
Gross wage is total salary of the employee, where as EPF/EPS wages means basic wage of the employee.
If employee gross wage is 21000 Rs basic wage could be 40% to 60% of it i.e. 8400 to 12600 Rs.
And PF should be calculated on basic wage not on gross wage.
So please check your company’s salary statement.
Incase of any mistake, you have to write a clarification letter to the EPF office stating the issue.
Dear Sir,
I have this query – We have updated KYC of employees and also verified and approved by DSC. Before verification, we can see the pending verification in Unified portal – Members – approvals. But after we are done with verification and approvals, where do we access the approved member details. It simply vanishes and we can’t keep track of which members we have verified and which are still pending?
