After activating your UAN on the UAN member portal, you will get an SMS to your mobile that says “EPFO SMS service UAN activated success”. Now in the next step, you need to set a password on the UAN portal using the forgot password option.
After creating the password, you can log in to the UAN member portal website with your UAN and password. There you can avail various online facilities related to PF, such as PF transfer, PF withdrawal, and KYC linking, etc.
Even with the same UAN and password, you can download your latest PF passbook on the PF passbook portal.
How to Activate PF UAN Number
There are two ways you can activate your UAN, first way is on the UAN Portal and the second option is by sending an SMS to 7738299899.
Activating UAN on UAN Member Portal
Step 1: Go to the UAN member portal and click on the Activate UAN option under the important links section.
Step 2: Now enter your UAN (or) PF number (or) PF linked Aadhar number or PAN number.
Step 3: Now type your name and date of birth as per your EPF account and enter your mobile number which you want to link with PF and finally type the captcha. After entering all the details click on the get authorization pin option.
Step 4: Now enter the OTP received to your mobile number and tick the I agree on the box. Finally, click on validate OTP & activate the UAN option.
After successful validation of the OTP, your UAN will be activated and you will get a UAN activation success message to your mobile.
How to Activate UAN by SMS
To activate your UAN number by SMS type EPFOHO ACT “12 Digit UAN” “PF Member ID”
Example: EPFOHO ACT 10090XXXX456 GRVSP00780XX0000000123
After typing the above SMS, send it to the 07738299899 number, within 1 to 2 minutes you will receive a message on your mobile that “EPFO SMS service UAN activated success”.

UAN activation SMS not received?
Sometimes even if you don’t get the OTP still your UAN will be activated, to know whether your UAN is activated or not click on the forgot password option on the UAN member portal.
If you are able to set a password then it means your UAN is activated, otherwise not. In that case, again try to activate it.
Which mobile number should I use to activate my UAN?
If your mobile number is not linked to your PF account by your employer during the PF registration process, then you can use any of your mobile numbers, otherwise, you need to enter the mobile number which is linked to your PF account.
Why is UAN activation required?
UAN activation is required to avail of PF online facilities like PF transfer, PF withdrawal, pension withdrawal, KYC linking, and to download your PF passbook, etc. Without activating the UAN you cannot do all these things.
