Private company employees can take 1 to 3 consecutive casual leaves. These casual leaves can be taken in combination with other leaves, including earned leaves and sick leaves.
The number of casual leaves you take depends on your leave balance; until you have a leave balance, HR tries to utilise them. So you will get loss of pay.
But in order to avail casual leaves, you must get approval for leave from the respective authority, like your supervisor or manager in your company.
In Indian private companies, employees will get 7 to 12 casual leaves, depending on the state’s Shops and Establishments Act.
Half-Day Casual Leaves
You can also take half-day casual leave either before or after the lunch break.
In that case, 0.5 CL will be marked.
Effect of Sandwich Leave Policy on Casual Leaves
In case your company follows the Sandwich Leave Policy, and you take casual leave before and after a holiday, then the holiday will also be marked as casual leave. So you will lose one CL.
For example, if you take casual leave on Saturday and Monday, then Sunday will also be considered casual leave.
