You can link your old PF account to your current UAN number by doing the PF transfer process on the UAN member portal website, for this you need either your old PF account number (or) previous UAN associated with that PF account.
Even the old PF account numbers will also have a UAN associated with them, but most employees don’t know that UAN. You can find that UAN by using the know your UAN option on the UAN member portal.
But if you have multiple UAN numbers then you have to transfer your PF amount from your old PF account to the new PF account, after the transfer process your old UAN will become deactivated.
What is an Inoperative PF Account
When you are not doing any job, then you can’t contribute to your PF account, then those PF accounts will be considered as “inoperative”
But there is no problem even though the PF accounts remain inoperative for several years, once you join a new job and continue the same UAN then that PF account will again become operative.
But you have to transfer your PF from your old PF account number to the new PF account number.
How to Link Old/Previous PF Account to Current UAN
PF transfer is the only process to link your old PF account to your current UAN number. Here is the step by step process:
Step 1: Go to the UAN member portal and login with your UAN and password.

Step 2: Now go online services in the menu bar and click on one member one EPF account (transfer request)

Step 3: Now a new page will open there choose attestation through previous employer or present employer (present employer is recommendable).

Step 4: After choosing the employer, now enter your old PF account number (or) old UAN and click on get details to see the previous employer details.
Step 5: Now click on get OTP and enter the OTP received your mobile number.
Once you verify the OTP then your PF transfer claim will be submitted and within 20 days your PF amount will be transferred to your new PF account, and at the same, your old PF account details will be saved in your current UAN.
You can check that in service history option under view of menu bar in the UAN member portal.
How Can I Get UAN for My Old PF Number
If you didn’t join in any new job then also you can find the UAN allotted to your PF account, here is the step by process to know your old UAN.
Step 1: Go to UAN member portal and click on know your UAN option.
Step 2: Now enter your mobile number and captcha and click on get OTP option.

My employee have old PF no generated before 2013. Now he got his UAN where UAN is not linked with Aadhar, so now we are unable to register his UAN from our side. How to proceed further. He has not withdrawn his PF amount till date. We are yet to upload his PF details before due date (15 Feb). So can we provide a general letter to PF office stating the issue or can create new PF no? Please assist.
Best way to solve this issue is by registering a grievance on EPF employer’s grievance portal, they can guide you with the right solution.
Otherwise the employee has to face problem with PF transfer or withdrawal.
Hi,
I Had a PF account in Bangalore and left overseas in 2001! Is there a way to find out whats there in the account and transaction?
Thanks,
If your mobile number and KYC are linked your PF account, you can find your UAN online.
Otherwise you have to get it from your company or respective PF office.
I just last week dealt with a similar case. Fortunately aadhar linked mobile is with employee’s father and I could login and submit the claim. Since you left in 2001, they will ask for residential status (Passport) and Form 15G
Now No body can Generate UAN except Employer / EPFO.
Above said system is old
Hi,
I worked in an organization where I had a pf account till July 2012. I had withdrawn all the amount after leaving the organization. I have no records of my old pf account and there is no UAN as it was introduced in 2014. After this I never worked in an organization where PF was required until 2022. In 2022 I was asked by my employer to enroll into PF, but I declined because I did not have an Aadhar card. But now the auditor of my company has raised a query that how can I opt out of PF when I was a member 10 years ago. Can I keep myself opted out of pf since my earlier pf account was closed on because of complete withdrawal?
There is no relation between your previous PF account withdrawal new PF account creation.
If your new employer wants to create, they can create new PF account for you depending on your eligibility.

You can merge your first PF account with your second PF account online on UAN member portal website.
for that you have to use PF transfer option on UAN member portal.
But as your PF account is very old, you face problems during online PF transfer process, In such case, submit PF transfer form 13 to your second PF office.

pl advice on how to find whether the member ID is active or not
When I left my first Company after 4 .5 years and joined new company I took PF amount and
created new PF in this company where I am working for last 12 years. Can I still add my old PF account in current UAN for which I closed the PF and took money. Am I eligible for higher pension as per new EPS rule for the years which I worked in my first company after closing the PF account.
If you have withdrawn your total PF and pension amounts from your previous PF account, then that service history will not be considered for a higher pension.
Still, if you want to merge that PF accounts with your current UAN you can apply for a PF transfer, EPFO will decide whether to merge it or not.
pension amount is still in old pf account
Hi Rajesh,
I have the same situation where in my previous PF account, PF was withdrawn but Pension amount was not.

1. First, you have to find your UAN associated with both PF accounts, for that you need to visit both PF offices directly or contact them via their email or Whatsapp, or Twitter (you can find those details online).
2. Once you know your UAN then submit PF joint declaration forms to both the PF offices to correct your PF details.
3. After correction of PF details transfer your PF from your first PF account to the second PF account. Later you can withdraw the full amount from your second PF account.
