HR Generalist vs HR Recruiter: Which Is Best?

We need to discuss this in 3 aspects: 1. Salary, 2. Career growth, and 3. Job stability & Stress.

Salary

HR Recruiters’ starting salaries are higher, and it is easier to get into the job compared to HR Generalist roles. In my experience, I have seen that HR Recruiters’ salaries are at least 20% higher at the beginning compared to HR Generalists.

For example, if an HR Generalist fresher gets a salary of ₹20,000 per month, an HR Recruiter can get ₹25,000 per month.

Career Growth

Both HR Recruiter and HR Generalist roles are good. However, when you start your career as an HR Generalist, you will have more knowledge, so the chances of becoming an HR Manager are higher for Generalists.

Job Stability and Stress

An HR Generalist role is more stable compared to an HR Recruiter role because every month you repeat the same tasks.

However, an HR Recruiter role is target-oriented, so each month is different, which may cause stress.

Which Role Is Best for You?

If you love talking with people, are extroverted, and don’t want to work with payroll, labour laws, and MS Excel, then an HR Recruiter is a good option for you.

If you want to work with payroll, labour laws, MS Excel, and a little recruiting, then HR Generalist is the best option for you.
