Cheque (or) bank passbook image is mandatory to withdraw your PF amount online. When it comes to cheques you can upload an image of blank cheques or cancelled cheques. But is not mandatory to write cancelled on the cheque. But make sure your name is clearly printed on the cheque.

In case if you don’t have a cheque then you can also upload your bank passbook first-page image, (or) apply for a new cheque book from your bank.

What is Meant by Cancelled Cheque in EPF

Whenever you write cancelled on a cheque then it will be called as a cancelled cheque. It will not be used for any transactions.

But the details present on the cancelled cheque like your name, bank name, account number and IFSC code will be used to cross check your bank account details before crediting your PF amount in your bank account.

Why cancelled cheque is required for PF withdrawal ?

The main aim of taking the cancelled cheque from the EPF members is to deposit the PF claim amount to the correct bank account number of the employee.

What if the name is not available on a cancelled cheque can i still withdraw my PF?

No, you can’t withdraw PF without name printed on the cheque. If you upload a cheque without name printed on it then your PF claim request will be rejected with a reason of “claim rejected member name not printed on cancelled cheque

How to get a new cheque book?

You can apply for a new cheque book in your bank, you can request new cheque book from your bank’s internet banking website or by visiting your bank’s branch directly.

What is alternative to cheque for PF withdrawal ?

If you don’t have a cheque, then you can also upload your bank passbook first-page image. If you are uploading your bank passbook then make sure that your bank passbook has a photo with bank seal on it, otherwise your PF claim will be rejected.

Is it mandatory to write cancelled on the cheque for PF?

No, it not mandatory, it is upto you. Eventhouh you don’t write cancelled on the cheque still EPFO will accept your cheque. But make sure the image of the cheque is clear.

  4. Hi Sir, I applied for EPF Final Settlement 2 times.

    I had uploaded a cheque which was a clear image with my Name, Account number, IFSC etc all details and I even signed on it. But strangely the 2nd rejection reason is about passbook and authorised signatory.

    The reason for rejection is
    1. Claim Rejected NO VERIFICATION MAIL RECEIVED FROM THE ESTABLISHMENT, AS IT IS A HIGH VALUE CLAIM
    2. PHOTOCOPY OF BANK PASSBOOK NOT ATTESTED BY THE AUTHORIZED SIGNATORY.

    Can you help I am doing something wrong?

    • If your cheque is clear then you can ignore the second reason, sometimes EPFO will send that message by default.
      For the first reason, contact your employer and ask them to check whether they received any email from EPFO or not.

      • Got, it. Thanks Rajesh. I’ve asked my ex-employer about 10 days ago , while they are taking time to respond, I had also escalated on EPFGMS for the EPF Office to re-open my claim request and give time to the establishment to respond and not just reject my claim request. But this EPFGMS has also been “Case Under Process” with a Regional PF Commissioner for 10 days now. No response.

        Do you suggest I re-apply for this withdrawal?

        • Yes, you can reapply.
          This time after applying for a PF claim, inform your employer that you applied for PF and also inform EPFO through the EPF grievance portal.
          If your claim gets rejected again for the same reason & don’t get any response from your company, then register a complaint against your employer on the grievance portal, then the EPFO will contact your employer to resolve the issue.
          (If all these things don’t work then it is better to visit your PF office directly.)

    i am claiming my pf withdrawl online.it has submitted than it get rejected and it is showing that, claim rejected, get the passbook attested by bank or authorized signatory.

    Sir, my passbook doesn’t have stamp on it. can i upload my cancelled cheque instead of passbook. and is stamp is also mandatory on cheque.

    I have two queries regarding pf withdrawal-
    1. Can I apply for pf withdrawal through “Non-home Branch” Cheque copy?
    2. What is 5 year continuous service meaning in Full & final withdrawal. From first job I have 1 year experience then 1 year gap and from second job I have 4 years experience.
    Can we consider this 5 year continuous service for PF withdrawal.

    • 1. No, you should submit the cheque of your branch, because the IFSC code is different for each branch.
      2. There is no need for continuous service, you should consider the PF contribution period. In your case 1+4 = 5 years.

    • The reason is not clear, form 19 is for PF withdrawal, and form 10c is for pension withdrawal.
      You can submit both forms or only form 19, it is up to you.
      And pls check your cheque whether your name is printed on it or not.
      To know the exact reason for rejection register a complaint on the EPF grievance portal website, you will get a reply in 2-3 days.

    • The first page of the bank passbook that you are uploading has to have a bank stamp (authorized signatory), if you don’t have that, take the passbook to your homebranch (issuing branch) and get it stamped. It hardly takes 5 minutes. Else, use you cheque, but the cheque must have your name printed on it. While uploading either one of these, make sure the account number, IFSC code, and your name is clearly visible.

  9. Hi Sir, I went PF office, they said this error was their fault
    1) UPDATE DATE OF JOINING AND DATE OF LEAVING IN THE CLAIM FORM AND SUIBMIT 2) PHOTOCOPY OF BANK PASSBOOK NOT ATTESTED BY THE AUTHORIZED SIGNATORY
    so i just apply again with same document,
    settlement done by PF office without any problems.

    • First of all you don’t have to visit the epfo office to settle a claim. Your date of joining and date of leaving are updated by your last organization on the epfo portal. Email your HR department with you UAN number and they shall do it with in 2 days. Everything is now online, don’t bother visiting physically anywhere.
      In case you still have not registered on UAN portal, then visit epfo website, create your account, enter your details and set your password. Your UAN number, in case you don’t know it, is always printed on your salary slip. Even the UAN number can be retrieved online on the same epfo website by filling in adhaar number and receiving an adhaar otp on your registered phone number. Stating all this, I’m assuming that your adhaar is seeded with you PF account, which is also done by the organisation for which you work.
