Women employees in Indian will get 26 weeks (182 days) of maternity leaves during their pregnancy. To avail of those maternity leaves, they need to submit a request letter to their employer. After approval of the employer, they can take maternity leave. 

You can start taking maternity leaves before 2 months (8 weeks) from the expected date of delivery and the balance you can use after the delivery.

Tips to Write a Formal Maternity Leave Letter.

  1. Write the subject line as Application for maternity leave or request for maternity leaves.
  2. Start with proper salutations like Dear Sir/Madam or Respected Sir/Madam.
  3. Address the maternity leave letter/email to the right person in your organization i.e who has the authority to sanction the leave, like your manager or HR department.
