What are the Future Consequences of Failed Background Check

Background check of an employee plays an important role while recruiting a new employee in every organization. Employers do a background check to verify the previous employment details, education details, and criminal record, etc.

If the employee fails to verify those details then employers will not recruit them. But here the point is most of the employee who fails in a background check will have a doubt in their mind that what are the consequences if they fail in background verification, here you can find the answer.

To say frankly, there is no effect on your future job search if you fail in background verification, but as a job seeker, you must always be honest, because some companies will keep you in their blacklist. So even in future also you cannot able to work with them. But remember Organizations do background verification to check whether you are a good fit for them or not, if you fail in background verification it doesn’t mean that you are not eligible to apply for a new job. It is a continuous process.

Why Job Seekers Fail in Background Check

As we all know the main reason for failing in background verification is false information when you put false information in your resume it may be educational information or employment information.

When the information provided in your resume doesn’t match with the information gathered in background verification then you may not get that job offer. Nowadays it not easy to fool the employers, the HR department in evolving and they are using various resources to do the background verification.

As a job seeker, some times you will cover the gaps between your employment by mentioning false experience and some mention false education details. Even though you are hired but in the future, these false details pull you in serious situations.

So, be honest during the interviews and always try to understand the mindset of the employer and you must prepare yourself to reveal what and what not reveal.

Future Consequences of Failed Background Check

1. Companies may Put You In Their Black List

Once you fail in a background verification of an organization then they will definitely list you in their blacklist, so that you cannot get a job in that particular companies and their branches. So as a fresher it will not affect you but when you get some experience and want some salary hike new position then those companies will reject you.

2. False Educational Background is A Crime

Generally, employees mention false experience in their resume, but mentioning false educational background and submitting false educational certificates is a crime. If the employer takes it seriously then they may file a case against you. So don’t do this.

3.  It Makes you Nervous throughout the Interview

Due to providing one false information, the job seeker needs to tell more lies and further leads to more false information. So even though the job seeker has some strengths related to that job still he fails to showcase them during the interview, because it makes you nervous throughout the interview.

  3. Hi Rajesh

    Good Afternoon !!

I had joined in my current company 3 years back and within 3 months they came to know that I had given fake experience. They had called me and made a discussion in front of HR, but they didn’t fire me. Still I’m working in the same company. Now will the company make any trouble when I leave the company like not providing experience or relieving letter. Please Answer. I’m bit tensed.

    Thanks

  6. Hi Rajesh,
    help me

I had submitted a fake exp(1.6 years) in MNC and FADV cleared my BGV after some hurdles and questions,
Now for next job can I change my fake company with original one(0.6 year)?
If I change it to original and next company go to fadv do they recheck all docs again or will they match it with previous data?

and does companies keep linkedin old resume somewhere in archives?

    My exp
    1.6
1.6 fake (original 1 year gap due to back in degree and 6 month exp)
    0.8
    1.11
    8 months going on

Note: I wanted to apply in FAANG like companies.

and I can ask my old 2nd or 3rd company to backdate my joining date to fill the gap, because I had good relations with all my past companies

  7. Hi guys,

    Need your valuable suggestion.

I have 3.3 years of overall experience in current organization. Initially I had worked for a start up for 6 month .But due to medical emergency i had to drop out of the company.

I have received offer letter from tcs and initiated the bgv.

Since I had worked for short duration in startup, I do not posses any experience letter therefore I did claimed and not mentioned in the bgv.

Bgv team mailed that through UAN they got to know the about the startup experience and asked to submit the service letter for the startup.

Will it impact the current offer??
What more details I can provide to bgv?

College Passout and joining to current organization their is a gap of 11 month
I have mentioned the reason for the gap as
: off campus joining was late .

    • If you have left your job due to a medical emergency then it is better to reveal the exact reason, if the reason is justified it will not affect your job offer.
If TCS still wants your experience certificate, it is better to get it.
For that talk with the head of the startup and tell him/her your problem, sure you will get the service certificate.

I am terminated from a company after working for 8 months due to negative BGV, and they have provided me the proper relieving letter and payslips. Can I use this in my future employment, will this affect on my BGV during new job?
Will my previous employer reveal about my termination during BGV?

    • Sad to hear it, try to explain the actual situation to your new employer about why the supervisor has given the negative feedback.
It is up to them whether to accept or not.
If possible next time onwards change the referrer (or) clarify your problem with him through the negotiation.

      • Hi Rajesh,

Back in 2015 I was working with company ‘A’.. I put my resignation there. Waited for 10 days and then joined a company ‘B’ without resignation acceptance from company ‘A’. After working in company ‘B’ for a week I joined back company ‘A’ as they were not ready to let me go.. i have been using the UAN that I used in Company ‘A’ since then…But then i came to know that for those 7 days company ‘B’ also generated another UAN.. Now both the UANs are kyc compliant. … Will I face any issue in future in regards to BGV??
        Kindly suggest.

        Reply
        • If your PF number also remains the same in company “A” then you will not face any problem.
If they have generated a new PF number for the same UAN then you have to transfer the PF to the latest PF account to avoid future problems.
In the same way, if possible transfer company B’s 7days PF as well to your latest PF account.

          • Hi Rajesh,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Please note company ‘A’ didn’t show my leave for 7 days in epfo, hence they have not created a new pf account when I joined back. They showed my continuous job. In between company ‘B’ has created another UAN and showed my employment with them for 7 days. Therefore, it has become a dual employment case. However, the UANs are different and I have been using the original UAN generated by company ‘A’…. I can’t transfer the pf amount of company ‘B’ as this will lead to dual employment.
            Kindly suggest.

          • Dual employment is not a problem, but the problem happens during online PF transfer due to the 7days service overlap in both companies.
I recommend you check which PF account number is showing while withdrawing the PF amount on your UAN portal, if it is showing company A’s PF number then you do not need to worry about it. (Don’t submit the claim, just follow the withdrawal steps of submitting form 19)
If it is showing company B’s PF number then you should transfer that amount to company A’s PF account.
For that, you need to apply for offline PF transfer using PF transfer form 13.
